With this victory, India has also ended its five-year trophy drought in multinational tournaments. Before Asia Cup 2023, India last won the Asia Cup title in 2018. Since the 2018 Asia Cup, India has failed to dominate important matches and occasions. India reached the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup. It lost to New Zealand in the 2021 World Test Championship (WTC) final and to Australia in the 2023 WTC final. The team also failed to make its presence felt in last year's Asia Cup, in which Sri Lanka won the title. The Asia Cup in 2022 was played in T20 format.
