The difficulties for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal may escalate amidst allegations of assault and misconduct against former private secretary to AAP's national convener and CM Arvind Kejriwal, Vihav Kumar. Delhi Police have registered an FIR against him.
Delhi Police recorded Maliwal's statement regarding the alleged assault at her residence. Subsequently, on Thursday (May 16, 2024), an FIR was filed against Vihav Kumar under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
What Swati Maliwal Said: Maliwal has lodged her statement with Delhi Police regarding the alleged assault. She emphasized that the BJP should not politicize the incident. At a crucial juncture when important elections are ongoing in the country, Maliwal stressed that the nation's issues are paramount.
Taking to social media, Maliwal posted, "What happened to me was very bad. I have given my statement to the police regarding the incident. I hope appropriate action will be taken. These past few days have been very difficult for me. I am grateful to those who prayed for me. To those who attempted character assassination and claimed that I was acting at the behest of another party, may God keep them happy, too."
National Commission for Women Sends Summons: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also issued a summons to Vihav Kumar regarding the matter. The hearing on the case is scheduled for Friday (May 17, 2024) at 11 AM. The entire episode has led to an intensified attack by the BJP on AAP.
