UP's high jump: CSR increased due to improvement in the health of companies, from 12th position to 5th position in nine years

Uttar Pradesh has taken a massive leap in Corporate Social Responsibility Fund. It has come straight from 12th place to fifth place in nine years. The increase in expenditure on CSR activities in the state is a direct indication that the profits of the companies here have increased, and due to coming under the ambit of CSR, the expenditure on this item has increased.
After improving the business environment in the state, the health of companies has improved. As a result, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund has increased. UP has joined the top five states of the country in this matter. Nine years ago, UP was the 12th state in the country in the list of receiving CSR funds.

In one year, Rs 1321 crore was spent on social work under the CSR fund in UP. Whereas in the year 2015, only Rs 148 crore was spent on CSR. To do business in the country, any company must register under the Companies Act 2013. Only some companies come under the purview of CSR.


Private limited or public limited companies having a turnover of Rs 1,000 crore or a net profit of Rs 5 crore in a year are required to spend at least two per cent of their average net profit on CSR activities.

This fund can be used in areas like environmental protection, education, health, poverty alleviation, disaster relief, social justice etc. CSR funds increase only when the income of companies increases.
The increase in expenditure on CSR activities in the state is a direct indication that the profits of the companies here have increased; due to coming under the ambit of CSR, the expenditure on this item has increased. Uttar Pradesh has moved from 12th position to 5th position among states spending CSR funds in the last nine years. Maharashtra is first with Rs 5229 crore, Karnataka is second with Rs 1761 crore, Gujarat is third with Rs 1554 crore, and Tamil Nadu is fourth with Rs 1371 crore.
