Foreign Minister S. jaishankar's Recent Statement Sparks Ire in China, Global Times Issues Warning

China has strongly condemned a recent statement by India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, as reported by the state-owned Global Times. The publication, citing Chinese experts, characterized Jaishankar's statement as a serious breach of Chinese sovereignty, indicating a complete intolerance for such assertions. According to the Global Times, Jaishankar reiterated India's stance in a recent interview, underlining the importance of border tranquillity for bilateral relations. He further emphasized India's patrolling rights along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and its surrounding areas, a point of contention in the ongoing border dispute.

The Global Times highlighted strong objections from Chinese scholars and defence experts regarding Jaishankar's remarks. They perceive Jaishankar's comments as an attempt to assert Indian control over disputed territories, constituting a severe violation of Chinese sovereignty. Specifically, they interpret Jaishankar's remarks regarding patrolling rights as an effort to incorporate contentious areas into Indian territory. This, according to Chinese experts, constitutes a significant transgression against Chinese sovereignty.

In the context of Prime Minister Modi's recent comments advocating for immediate dialogue on the India-China border, Jaishankar's remarks assume a significant role. While Modi's approach appears conciliatory, Jaishankar's stance reflects a more assertive position, potentially indicating discord within India's leadership. The ongoing Lok Sabha elections further heighten this complexity, adding a layer of uncertainty to the situation.

Accusing India of provocation, Chinese military specialist Zhang Junshe asserted to the Global Times on Monday that Jaishankar's allegations against China likely aim to divert India from the border dispute. Zhang suggested that if India ceases its provocations, border tranquillity could be restored. He further advocated for maintaining peace between the two countries and resolving the border dispute through bilateral dialogue.
